#4: Doctor’s note, if applicable.

#5: Name of the contact person who will handle the workload while away

How do I write a sick day email?

Sample: Hi, I hope you are having a wonderful day. I will stay home from work tomorrow because I’m not feeling very well – it seems like a virus is going around. I’ll come in as soon as possible if my condition improves, but thank you for the understanding and see how it goes!

Please make sure that you use a polite tone throughout the email and include basic contact information such as your name and phone number.

It’s always better to be told about your sickness rather than trying to come up with excuses on the fly that might seem suspicious for example, saying that you’re “sick of working” or too busy would ring alarm bells for any HR personnel supervising this email. Hence, it’s best not to include those things.

Essential Tips, Guidelines To Write Sick Day Email To Manager

  • Begin the email by explaining why you are out sick/unable to come to work. Example: I am feeling really under the weather today and was up all night vomiting which is why I’ve missed work today.
  • Describe what you will be able to (and not) do during your absence: Not much – my ability to focus and daydream about my next vacation has been limited significantly because my stomach is wrecked, but I can still sit around yapping on the phone occasionally if that’s what you need me for!
  • Looking forward” today (or this weekend), my goal is ____, as long as I’m feeling well enough. After today (or this weekend), there’s a good chance I’ll be back to 100%, but if I’m still feeling weird, you might have to cover for me again.”
