IBM Interview Questions & Process:

You will need to provide your personal information and education details.

You can download the Application Template from IBM’s site. The application template focuses on your key competencies and skills. It asks you for examples of instances in your life where you have displayed these. Use well-illustrated examples drawn from a range of experiences, such as school, work, and relationships.

Online Test

If you pass the initial screening, your application will be invited for the IBM IPAT computer aptitude exam.

Although you’ll only have to complete the first two sections of the IPAT, which tests logic reasoning and speed in information processing, the third section, number sequencing and problem-solving, is the most important.

Each question will take you 2.5 minutes to answer. The test can last up to one hour.

The sections can be completed in one or two sessions. You will have seven days to achieve both.

Day of Selection

IBM recently changed the graduate selection process. Instead of two selection/assessment days, they now only have one. The unsuccessful candidates are sent home before lunch.

Group Exercises

Depending on which role you applied for, there may be up to two group exercises that begin the assessment day. Each activity can last approximately an hour. Your large AC group will be broken into small groups of six people. You might have to complete two types of tasks in these smaller groups: a logical task or a planning/discussion task.

To complete the Logical Task, you will need to consider a variety of criteria and information. This task involves a fictional art exhibition scenario in which candidates have to place different paintings. They are given limited information about each painting’s location.

Candidates need to work together to complete the missing data. You will be surveyed by the IBM assessors and asked to take notes during the activity. Do not be afraid. Remember to be respectful of your group members and to work together to solve the problem.

A Planning Task is another task that you might encounter. In this case, your group must work together to plan an event for a client. Your client will give you a list with specific criteria and requirements.

You must then work within your budget to create the possibility that meets your client’s needs. Your group will have a 4-minute window during which they can ask the client questions.

It would help if you asked relevant and valuable questions during this time. However, you should also be respectful of the nature of the client/consultant relationship by exchanging formalities and keeping a professional appearance.

IBM Cognitive Ability Assessment

You will be asked to retake the Numeracy IPAT test after the group exercise to confirm your online results. While you don’t need to get the same score online, you must pass. The IBM cognitive ability assessment will only be available on paper.

You will not be permitted to use a calculator. You will receive the same questions like those you have completed online. The time it takes to answer ten questions is 22.5 minutes. However, because this is a written exam, you might spend less time on each question.

Communication/Role Play Exercise

This exercise will require you to work in pairs, and you’ll be given 20 minutes to create a presentation for a fictional client. Your representation will be based on the information you have been given about the company and the client. You will need to review the information quickly as it is likely that 20 minutes will fly by.

Then, you will need to give your client a 5-minute pitch explaining why the solution you recommend would be best for them. There will be different cases. For example, a graduate representing a mobile app development firm was asked to present a 5-minute pitch to an eCommerce company looking for an app solution.

You and your partner should split the work equally. Treat your assessor like you are her client and maintain a professional, engaging attitude. Follow-up questions will be asked. Prepare for them beforehand and ensure that you both have a clear understanding of your solution.

Written Exercise

This exercise is a follow-up to the role-play scenario that you have just completed. However, it will be done separately. It involves sending an email to your client explaining the details of your proposal. Be sure to address all issues in the instructions and keep a professional tone. This exercise takes 20 minutes.

Interview

The last stage of the assessment day is a one-on-1 interview with a partner or manager. This will take about 30 minutes. This interview will vary based on who is interviewing you. So prepare well. Do your research on the company and current issues in your division. Interviewers will bring your CV to the interview. Final Interview

If you pass the assessment day, you’ll be invited to a “business matching interview” with a senior manager. This may take over an hour. It may take up to two months for you to be invited to the final interview.

It will be the last round. They will want to ensure that you are suitable for the job they have in store for you.

This interview is generally more relaxed. It will focus on your motivation and CV. You will be asked competency-based questions to reflect your specific skills.
